Reference #:6364 Channel: ART
Status: Sold
An extremely painterly landscape by an unknown artist--the age of the canvas artist's board would probably place this piece in the early-mid 20th C. range. The brushstrokes and colors used are very expressive--sketchy, but studied, as well. A true lover of landscapes will surely be able to see the heart that went into the creation of this painting. Wood frame (chipping)--a tear on the left side of the surface plane edge. Overall size: app. 21.5 X 27.5". Image size; app. 17.5 X 23.5".

  Masaji Aoyama Woodcut Print
Reference #:6341 Channel: ART
Status: Sold
A wonderful, vivid woodcut from Kabutoya Galleries in Tokyo. The blues of the inks, the dark forms, and the outlines of the bridge, trees, and boats all adhere to one another to create an overall cohesive mood--one that is calm, cool, and collected. This piece is beautifully framed and matted/under glass, and comes with authentication information on the reverse. Would look fabulous absolutely anywhere! Overall size: 17 X 21.5". Image size: 10 X 14.5".

Item:"Flaherty" pastel female portrait
Reference #:6342 Channel: ART
Status: Sold
This drawing indisputably has the mark of any fine portrait...personality. We think you'll agree that the portrait sitter's expression is indeed an extremely pleasant one. The quality of line is studied--academic, yet the artist made it all his or her own. Signed "Flaherty 1966". Framed (chips)/under glass. Overall size: app. 18 X 22". Image size: app. 12 X 16".

Item: Industrial-style charcoal drawing
Reference #:6340 Channel: ART
Status: Sold
This charcoal drawing on paper appears to be a somewhat sophomoric attempt at industrial graphic artistry, but entails the very essence of monochromatic art. The overall style is somewhat primitive and naive, but the different shades of grading really add to the stark contrast of this piece. Framed/under glass. Overall size: app. 30 X 24.5". Image size: app. 17 X 23".

Item: "J. Carachi" (?) Southwestern oil 1953
Reference #:6336 Channel: ART
Status: Sold
This is a nice, airy oil on Masonite, with a definite Southwestern feel. The paint appears to have been applied in a thick, impasto-style--the brushstrokes are purposely sketchy, yet retain a sense of detail. Very contemporary appearance for a painting executed in 1953. Framed (a few chips). Overall size: app. 16 X 18.5". Image size: app. 12 X 14.5".

Item: Boats in a Harbor Town
Reference #:6339 Channel: ART
Status: Sold
This oil on canvas painting is nothing less than superb! The brushwork is among the most detailed we've seen, and the palette used was simply exquisite. Look at the close-ups and we feel that you'll agree that the figures, and the architecture, as minute as they are are jeweler loupe quality. Unfortunately, this painting is unsigned. Framed (a few chips). Some crackling on surface plane of canvas, but this is normal for the age. Overall size: app. 21 X 31". Image size: app. 15 X 25".

Item: "Eads" Primitive Ducks on Pond
Reference #:6328 Channel: ART
Status: Sold
If you've got an eye for true primitive folk art, you'll definitely love this oil on canvas board from 1966. It depicts two ducks on the water's surface with a small mountain range in the distance. This painting was executed in a naive fashion, however, the colors are extremely lush and vivid, the brushwork, while nearly invisible in some places, nearly approaches an impasto-style application in others. No frame. Some minor wear to the edges, but this would not be visible in a frame. Signed and dated: "Eads 66" in lower right. Overall size: 24 X 30".

Item:Charcoal Drawing from Old Photograph
Reference #:6316 Channel: ART

This antique charcoal portrait is one of the best we've seen. It appears to have survived its journey through life with little foxing--a common malady to older works on paper--and the expression on the face of the sitter is the classic expression common among these types of works--a determined look, tempered by every attempt to look serious. Comes in a beautiful wood (gilded) frame (chipping)/ under glass. Some foxing on paper. Overall size: app. 25.5 X 29". Image size: 15.5 X 19.5".

Would look great positively anywhere. No frame. Some wear on edges of canvas. Overall size: app. 20 X 24".
